Woo yay sha! Do you just love that Cajun French music? Jerry Moody, his wife, Judith and 2 other friends played Cajun music on an accordion, a fiddle, a guitar and triangle. Judith is originally from Portland, Oregon. She has learned over 20 Cajun French songs and encouraged Jerry to be the best musician he can be. Jerry purchased an accordion in 1982 and learned to play it in his spare time. Love, Love, Loved it! If you were not able to attend last month's meeting you sure missed some good music.

GUEST SPEAKER
Denis GAUBERT of Thibodaux will speak on "How To Research Your Civil War Ancestor". He will have Civil War Artifacts on display. Denis was born in 1955 at Fort Riley, Kansas, while his father, a U.S. Army officer, was assigned to that post. His parents were both natives of Thibodaux, Louisiana, where he has resided for most of his life. Like many local residents, he is a descendant of exiled French Acadians who settled in Lafourche Parish in the 18th century and, like them, takes pride in the unique character and culture of this area. He graduated in 1973 from Thibodaux High School and then attended Nicholls State University, graduating in 1976. He was accepted at Louisiana State University Law Center and graduated in 1979. He was admitted to the practice of law later that year and has practiced law in Thibodaux and Houma for over 33 years.
     He first became interested in the American Civil War during the Civil War Centennial from 1961-1965, and started researching genealogy and his Civil War Confederate ancestors while in college. He has been a student and amateur historian of the Civil War for many years, and has been a Civil War reenactor and collector since 1991. He has also assisted several authors and researchers who have written about the Civil War in south Louisiana. He first identified the Confederate service records of Edward Douglass White, the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, in the National Archives, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Friends of the E.D. White Historic Site in Thibodaux. He is a member and Past Commander of the General Randall Lee Gibson Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans in Thibodaux, and also a member of the Company of Military Historians, a national organization devoted to military history.

CHRISTMAS SOCIAL GATHERING
That time of the year is almost here! We will not have a meeting in November instead we will have our Christmas Social Gathering on December 15. It is a pot luck meeting. Bring your favorite dish or dessert or both for all to share and if you would like to bring a small door prize or two or three, please feel free to do so. Also, Ms. Juanita is a Toys for Tots representative and she is collecting toys to give to the children. Toys need to be new and unwrapped and in its original package. She also accepts money. Please be generous, it is for children.

The Texas State Genealogy Society‘s 2012 Annual Conference, "Saddlebags to Social Networking: Following Ancestors Through History", at the Riley Conference Center in Fort Worth, TX on November 1 – 3. Curt Witcher who heads the Allen County Public Library's Genealogy Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana is the featured speaker. Two day registration, $75 includes lunch Friday and Saturday. We are still in the process of re-creating a new web site. We are working out the small details and will soon have a new web address. But we need your feedback. ANNOUNCEMENT
  I am a proud grandma to my first grandchild. Casey Anne Lovell born October 1, 2012 at 1:24 a.m. 18" long, 5 lbs.' 5.2 oz. She was born 1 month pre term. She is a very beautiful baby girl!
