Main Branch Library: 151 Library Dr. Houma , LA
Have you been to the NSU ( Nicholls State University ) Archives in Thibodaux , LA ? If you have, you know what a treasure you have found. If you have not, let me fill you in on what you are missing. There are local history records, family papers, letters that have been transcribed, Assumption Parish funeral notices with some that date back to 1830, Allen J. ELLENDER library collection, Robert R. BARROW collection, Randolph BAZET collection, & more. There are historic newspapers, Louisiana and rare books division and a genealogy room with so many things I don't have enough room to list them. It is a must see place. Clifton THERIOT is the University Archivist there. He was our guest speaker at the last meeting, so if you did not attend the last meeting you missed out on a great presentation. But you can visit him at the NSU Archives and he can show you what they have. It is open to the public, with the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. you must get a parking permit for the day, just visit the University police booth. There is a collection inventory available online at www.nicholls.edu/library.com .
We also presented Essie J. CAVALIER a Certificate of Dedication for his many years of service to the society. Just to remind you Essie has retired as a board member for the TGS, although he still remains an active member and is continuing his projects for the Society. We THANK YOU so very much Essie for your dedication. We need more members like you & Marceline CAVALIER (wife), because she was right along side of you in each project you did. We cannot THANK you two enough.

INDEX Bona Arsenault's "Histoire Et Genealogie Des Acadiens"
While these books are invaluable for Acadian research, the index is limited to surnames only, and each book is separately indexed. With so many common names among the Acadians, more information is needed for easier research.
This is a new every name index to the set of five books.
This is available on CD in Excel, text, and Word formats. In the CD files, all information is on the screen, you simpy have to scroll to see all, and is searchable by any data. If desired, it is also available printed in a two-volume set by special order. No pre-printing will be done.
