NEXT MEETING: June 30, 2012, 1:00 p.m., MAIN LIBRARY 151 Library Dr. Houma, LA 70360

Mr. C. J. Christ, President of the Regional Military Museum was our speaker. He has written and lectured on World War II in the Gulf of Mexico for almost 40 years. The research for his book comes from interviews from people that had been involved, government records, and 180 logs from the Captains of the ships involved and have attended many meetings in Germany. The war started in 1939. A submarine was sent into the Gulf which sank a tanker with big guns and from May 4, 1942 to July 12, 1942 fifty-eight ships were sunk and eighteen more were damaged. There was a ban of people called the Swamp Angels who claimed to be the Coast Guard and had a confrontation with the real Coast Guard. He has maps and other memorabilia. The goal of the Regional Military Museum is to commemorate and is dedicated to the brave men and women who have sacrificed and defended our great nation. If you are interested in finding out more, contact Mr. Christ at the Regional Military Museum on Barrow Street in Houma, Louisiana. He will be glad to help you and answer all your questions.

Patty presented Nancy Wright and Sheila Rodrigue each with a certificate of dedication for the many years of services to the society. Nancy had been the treasurer from 1981 to 2012. Sheila had been recording secretary form 1992 to 2012. Thanks to Nancy and Sheila for your dedicated time and talent to the Terrebonne Genealogical Society. May each of you enjoy your retirement.
