     At the June meeting, Catherine DOMANGUE announced that she had received some leads from two members: Sheila RODRIGUE, our hardworking secretary, as well as from our well-known member, Elton OUBRE, author of the book Vacherie, St. James Parish, Louisiana: History And Genealogy. (For more information about the book and its availability, see http://www.thecajuns.com/vacherie.htm.)  Catherine said that she would follow up on the leads provided so generously by Sheila and Elton. She wanted to thank them and all who worked on her “brick wall.” Later, Board Member Patty WHITNEY pulled out the brick wall brought in by Pat BERGERON. Pat came prepared to win. She passed out the particulars in the form of a typed page and an ancestry chart. Actually it was two brick walls in one. I quote from the typed page: “I am at a standstill on two of my family lines. These are the Armands and Boutitons. These two are on my father’s side of the family. They are my great-grandparents. Armand can be spelled Armand, Armond, Omine, and maybe Oman. Oman is on the top of Alexander Armand’s tomb.[The tomb is in Magnolia Cemetery, Houma, La. Ed.] The name Boutiton could possibly have been Boutilon at one time.” From the ancestry chart we find that Alexander ARMAND was born in 1862 and died on 25 Sep 1940 in Houma, LA. On 28 July 1890 he married Pauline BOUTITON, daughter of Jean Cyprien BOUTITON and Uranie “Irene” MATHERNE. Pauline was born in 1858 and died on 11 Nov 1942 in Houma, LA. She married 2nd Henry Clay LUKE Agnes ARMAND was the daughter of Alexander and Pauline. Agnes was born in 1895, married 29 April 1918 in Theriot, LA, and died in 1922. This Agnes is Pat BERGERON’s paternal grandmother, so she obviously married a BERGERON. This fact was not stated on the chart, but is my assumption [Beware of assumptions. Ed.]. Another fact that was supplied by Pat was that Pauline had a brother, John BOUTITON, b. 1857. DEATH: It is with a great sadness that I report the death of one of our most valuable members. More than one person told me that he (or she) was helped by Godfrey OLIVIER. But now that gentle man has been laid to rest. He was a charter member of our society. He is survived by three sisters, Ethel BAHM and husband, Dallas, of Augusta, GA, Wanda GROS and husband, Eugene, of Houma and Sally MAZUR and husband, James, of Las Vegas, NV, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Joseph OLIVIER and Esther BEADLE OLIVIER, and one brother, Charles David OLIVIER. He was a retired accountant and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Bicentennial Planning Committee, a member of Terrebonne Art League, director at large of Louisiana Watercolor Society, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and a lifelong communicant of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. He will be sorely missed.
 
BIRTH: Ask Marcie or Essie CAVALIER about their new great-granddaughter; they are some proud! Taylor Jolie BOUDREAUX was born 14 June 2005 to parents Jeremy Joseph BOUDREAUX and Lesley Renée DONOVAN BOUDREAUX. Paternal grandparents are Giles Jude BOUDREAUX and Karen Ann CAVALIER BOUDREAUX, and maternal grandparents are Glenn Gilbert DONOVAN and Melinda Mary CHIASSON DONOVAN. Lucky Taylor Jolie has four grandparents and eight great-grandparents to spoil her. WOW!
  
PRAYERS: Please pray for our ailing members: Doris Mae NAQUIN, Dot SMITH, Audrey WESTERMAN, and Lou OSTHEIMER, who are either recovering from illness or trying to live with one. Call them and tell them you miss them and are thinking about them and praying for them. Prayer has been proven to be helpful in many ways. While you are at it, why not ask if there is anything you can do for them?
 
SEMINAR ON HISTORY AND GENEALOGY: Lafourche Heritage Society invites you to attend its Twenty-Ninth Annual Seminar on Saturday, August 2, 2005, at the new Envie Banquet Facility of the Howard Johnson Hotel, 308 North Canal Blvd., Thibodaux, Louisiana. In two morning and two afternoon sessions, there will be presentations by Patricia WHITNEY [Yes, our own Patty. Ed.] Dr. Thomas F. KRAMER, William D. REEVES, and Albert J. ROBICHAUX, Jr. Only participants who pre-register will be included in the count for a buffet lunch, so register early. Registration at the door will be from 8:30 a.m. and the program will begin promptly at 9:15 a.m., to conclude around 3:30 p.m. To pre-register, send your name(s) and check(s) to be received no later than August 1, 2005. HOUMA-THIBODAUX DIOCESE: The Catholic Church Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux has announced a new price list for its Historical Research Center (also called the Diocesan Archives). They have been charging these new prices since January of this year. Certified Copies (Certificates): $6.00; photocopies of original records over 100 years old: $12.00; and Family sheets: $10.00 per sheet (records research). If you go there, the hours are 8-12 and 1-4 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are located at 205 Audubon Avenue in Thibodaux, LA 70301, phone (985) 446-2383, FAX (985) 449-0574. If you send a written request, please send a SASE (self-addressed, stamped envelope).
 
MISSING ISSUES: If you know of a way to get some missing issues of the journal L’Heritage, which is the publication of the St. Bernard Parish Genealogy Society, please let Judith SONIAT know. She can be reached at the Terrebonne Parish Library, Main Branch, Reference Section (2nd floor) or you may email her at genealogy.b1tb at state.lib.la.us The library would be glad to be able to purchase the missing issues, which are in volumes 11, 19, 24, and 25 (years 1988, 1996, 2001 and 2002)
 
ENGAGEMENTS, BIRTHS, MARRIAGES, DEATHS: In 2004 the Houma Courier and the Daily Comet (of Lafourche Parish) published notices of all of these occasions. If you or someone in your family was mentioned in the paper you may want a permanent copy on acid-free paper of the notice as it appeared at the time. These can be very useful to the family historian. Is that person you? Be sure to order your copy before July 31, 2005. We do not stock these books. We print only those for which we have orders. Better to say “I’m glad I did” than to have to say “I wish I had.” Right?
 
HELP: Confused about insurance? Only one who works in the field claims to know all about insurance, and even that person is often unsure about some detail or other. Well, I’ve got an excellent site for you to go for help. It is http://www.iii.org/ and you can get information on topics from Arson to Workmen’s Comp. Believe me, it is so thorough I could hardly believe that it was free. You can download software to help you complete an inventory of your possessions. That is always helpful in times of loss, such as a fire or flood or wind damage. Check it out.
