HOT SUMMER DAYS ARE COMING SOON. Has anybody notice we are only in the spring season and it already feels like summer. 

Ask and you will receive. Phil Chauvin our President was looking for a little information and received a lot more than he ask for. But it’s all good.

We will have a speaker at our June meeting.  Michael Antoine GOITIA will be speaking about Basque History and Basque Genealogy. Come by to hear what he has to say.

Guess what!!!! Judy Soniat is now full time. She will be available in the geneagoly department for anybody needing help.

Let’s pray for NO HURRICANES!!!

COLLATING PARTY TO PUT THE QUARTERLY TOGETHER WILL BE ON JUNE 26, 2008 FROM 1 P.M. TO 3 P.M. AT THE MAIN BRANCH LIBRARY. THE NORTH BRANCH LIBRARY IS BUSY WITH ITS SUMMER PROGRAM. IF YOU WOULD LIKER TO HELP BE AT THE MAIN LIBRARY BY 1:00 P.M.

SEMINARS

The Lafourche Heritage Society Seminar will be held on August 9, 2008 at Envie in Thibodaux. We you are a member you will get a registration form. If you have an exhibit you would like to display you must call ahead of time to reserve your area. Space is limited. More details will follow. In the meantime you can contact Patty Whitney.

The Historic New Orleans Collection is having an Italian Genealogy workshop on Saturday, August 23, 2008, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Williams Research Center 410 Chartes St, New Orleans, LA. Registration is required due to limited seating. Fee is $25.00 until August 9, 2008, after that the fee will be $35.00 until all space is used. Lunch is not provided. BERNARD-COKES Family Reunion on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., at Lovett Road BREC Recreation Center, 13443 Lovette Rd., Baton Rouge, LA 70818. Lunch will be provided. Exchange of genealogy data will be done before day of or week after reunion to allow social time for all participants. The Lafourche Hertiage Society for genealogy is moving their meeting place to the Historical Research Center at 205 Audubon St. in Thibodaux. They meet on the second Thursday every month at 1:00 p.m.

DEATHS

One of our founding members and a charter member died.
Wilma Boudreaux Boudreaux, 87, a native of Houma died Thursday, June 5, 2008. She is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Detillier; two sisters, Muriel Schiemeyer and Nell Belanger; seven grandchildren, Richard Boudreaux, Jr., Jody Detillier, Johnna Lynn D. Le, Jill D. Mendez, Donna Lynn B. Fowler and Tony Fremin; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Boudreaux; her parents, Kirby J. Boudreaux, Sr. and Marguerite A. LeBoeuf Boudreaux, four sons, Henry J. Boudreaux, Richard K. Boudreaux, Sr., Andrew Boudreaux and Daniel Boudreaux; one grandson, Johnny James Detillier, one great-grandson, infant Richard Boudreaux, III; one brother, Kirby J. Boudreaux, Jr.; and 3 sisters, Marie S. Bowers, Thelma B. Hebert and Margaret B. Hicks. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 31, the VFW Auxiliary Post 3700, Terrebonne Salon 660 8/40, TGS and a volunteer at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. She loved dancing, bingo, casinos and genealogy and always prayed for our service men and women. She was a homemaker and a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. Burial at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
