Well what a meeting! Things did not go exactly as planned. But our speaker did show up. I myself was unable to make the meeting, as I had to work all that day. But from what I hear he gave fabulous speech. If you were at the meeting I would like to hear how he did. I know he takes names from of old and brings them to the present day spelling and how the changes took place each time it was changed. I have heard him speak last year at one of our meeting and this year at the Lafourche Heritage Society Seminar.

Our next meeting is in December. We will not have a regular meeting in November or December. What we do have is our annual Christmas Social Gathering on December 12. Bring your favorite dish or dessert and a door prize or two to share. Last year there were so many door prizes that everybody got 3 door prizes each. And the food was so delicious that you didn't want to stop eating. If you have never attended this annual social gathering you may want to come join us. Also, we make contributions to the Toys for Tots Program. If you would like to donate a toy to a child, bring it to this meeting. Please do not wrap it and it must be new and in its original package. They also accept monetary donations. Juanita Chaisson will make sure to bring it to them.

NOTICE

It is almost time to elect new officers and board members. In February of 2010 we will have to vote on the new officers and board members. If you have not heard yet, our current president, Philip Chauvin, Jr. has decided to step down as president. And board member Essie Cavalier would like to step down also. They will remain active in the society. They have decided it is time for the society to enlist some younger member to take over their positions. If you are interested in becoming president or a board member or know someone that will accept the nomination contact the election committee, which consists of Dorothy Bergeron (985) 876-2348, Marcie Cavalier (985) 876-0416, and Gloria Hicks (985) 532-3586. We have 5 elected officers and 4 elected directors for a term of 2 years.

DEATHS

Curvin “Nicky” Castle Jr., 66, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of Houma, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009. He is the brother of member William Castle. Burial in Southdown Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Gaynell Bolden Castle; two sons, Ricky Castle of Houma and Tristen Harris; three daughters, Gwendolyn Castle and husband, Troy, Yolanda Castle, and Gilda Castle and husband, Steve, all of Houma; four brothers, Louis Castle and wife, Willie Mae, Joseph Castle and wife, Doris Williams, of Houma, William Castle and wife, Musette, of Pittsford, N.Y., and Donald and wife, Cynthia Castle, of Fayetteville, N.C.; five sisters, Josie Mae Austin, Carolyn Carter and husband, Carlus, Rosalyn Castle, Clara Barbarin and husband, Albert, of Houma, and Paulette Castle Lay of Hahnville; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curvin and Riffie Champagne Castle; one brother, Isaac Castle Sr.; a devoted friend, Arnolia Porter; and his grandparents, William and Clara Castle, and Beatrice Theriot and Henry Champagne.

Minus Joseph Blanchard , 67, a native of Chauvin and resident of Houma, died at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009. His wife, Pat, was a former TGS Board Member. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Schmidt Blanchard; two daughters, Laura Lee Blanchard and Paula LeBlanc and fiance' Joseph Dufrene; three grandchildren, Heather Deroche LeBlanc, Ashley Deroche and Matthew Prince; one great-grandchild, Lane Michael LeBlanc; two sisters, Martha Savoie, Hilda Didier and husband, Steve; one brother, Mannuel Blanchard and wife, Karen; and sister-in-law, Flo Blanchard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston Gustave Blanchard and Hilda Dumont Blanchard; one daughter, Donna Blanchard Prince; two sisters, Evelyn Blanchard and Hazel Acosta; one brother, Terry Blanchard; and one brother-in-law, Raymond Acosta. He was retired in the oilfield business, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral and a third degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was loved by many and will be missed.

We are selling our Quarterly-years of 1991 to 2008 for $15.00 each plus postage and handling. This sale will run until our annual Christmas Social Gathering on December 12, 2009. Get them quick. First come first serve. A book order form is attached.
