NEXT MEETING: May 29, 2010 — 1:00 p.m., Main Branch Library: 151 Library Dr. Houma , LA

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO CHANGE, ADD, OR DELETE FROM OUR MEETINGS? LET US KNOW!

Last month we had our meeting in the genealogy department at the library instead of the meeting room. It is such a pleasure to have our meetings in the atmosphere for which we actually host these meetings. To be surrounded by the actual books, microfilm and other equipment that we use when we go to the library to do our search. Not to mention we always meet someone is doing a family history search and does not have a clue where to begin. A lot of people do not know which books to use or where to find them. The library does not hire genealogists. They do have the staff that can help you find the particular books you are looking for, but some of the staff is not familiar with genealogy or which books would be more helpful to the researcher. That is where we come in. We are trying to set up a program with the library staff for people who come in doing a search and would like more help than what the library staff is willing to help them with. Some members have agreed to help people with their research if they are available at the time the researcher is at the library or by scheduling an appointment at a later date and time between the member and the researcher.

DO YOU HAVE A BRICK WALL? You do! Just send your query to us and we will see if we can help bring that wall down for you. You can also bring it to the meeting and give it the Blanche. She will make sure it gets to the right person(s) to help you break the wall.

GUEST SPEAKER

We will have an update from Clifton Theriot, University Archivist at Nicholls State University , Thibodaux , Louisiana . He will let us know what is going on and what he has been doing at the Archives Department.

WELCOME ABOARD

The library has a new employee for the reference and genealogy department. She has taken the place of Darryl Eschete, who left the library several months ago. Darryl was our go between for the library genealogy department and us. This was a loss for us. But now Jennifer Hamilton has joined the staff about 3 weeks ago. We hope to have a better connection with the library through her. Unlike Darryl she is very interested in genealogy. She was born in Georgia , but has moved here from Lafayette . Please stop in at the library and meet her. We hope she will be able to stop by and say hi for our meeting.

LIBRARY CONNECTION

Judy in the genealogy department is looking for books that you are interested in having in the library, that is not presently there. She will need the title, author, publisher, price (if available), and where it can be purchased. You can bring it to her or send her an E-mail at genealogy@mytpl.org . The library also has a subscription to Heritage Quest website. It is free to you, go to the library homepage and click on the link for Heritage Quest , you will need your library card number to get in. There is a lot of information for you to search through. HAVE FUN!!

FIRST PLACE WINNER

Dorothy M. Bergeron is a marvelous cook. She has won 1 st place in the Jade 35 th Anniversary Category. Here is her winning recipe. ENJOY!

GO-GREEN DIP

1-14 ½ oz. can cut up Asparagus (drain) @ 1 ¾ cup. ½ cup fresh green onion (chopped).

1 Teaspoon fresh parsley (chopped).

HOSPITALITY HOSTESS NEEDED

We also are in need of a new hospitality hostess. Marcie Cavalier has been doing this for many, many years and has decided to retire. We are looking for someone the take her place and she has agreed to help who ever decides to do this. Just talk to her at the meeting. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, Marcie for your dedication to our members in your hospitality. I pray that we can find someone just as dedicated as you are.
