NEXT MEETING: December 4, 2010 — 1:00 p.m.; Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Hwy 311, Houma , LA

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! It comes once a year, just like our ANNUAL SOCIAL GATHERING. It is time for us to gather together and socialize. Come and bring your significant other and join the fun. Oh, did I mention the food. Well, we are having a potluck party, bring your favorite dish or dessert to share with everyone and when everyone is relaxing after eating we will give away door prizes. If you would like to bring a gift or two or three for the door prizes please feel free to do so. Last year some of us with home with at least three gifts. Also, Jess will not be able to bring our books to sell at this party, but attached is a BOOK WISH LIST. Give your family your wish list of the books you want Santa to bring you. Just contact Jess by email at jessndot at bellsouth.net to make your order or if you prefer you can call him at (985) 876-2348 or bring it to him at the social gathering.

TOY FOR TOTS
We are also helping to collect toys for needy children and we are going to donate them to Juanita Chaisson, who in turn will give them to Toys for Tots. The minimum toy gift is $5.00 and must be in its original package and not wrapped. If you prefer to make a monetary gift: they will accept checks made out to Toy for Tots. Remember this is for children who may not get any gifts for Christmas.

Now, lets talk about what happened at our last meeting. You know we had a guest speaker, Judy Riffel. She spoke about Spanish Land Grants. What they were and how people got them. She also told us where we could find some of these records. They are not all in the same place, so you may have to do some research to find what you are looking for. These are just a few of the websites for you to research: Pintado Papers: 1773-1939, http://doa.louisiana.gov/slo, Pintado Papers: 1785 – 1817 finding aid, http://leweb.loc.gov/rr/mss/address/html. The LSU Hill Memorial Library and Historic New Orleans Collection has microfilm copies of the Cuban Papers, Louisiana Miscellany Collection, Pintado Papers, and Louisiana Land Grants Collection. Check out the website for Judy Riffel at www.lecomite.org and she will be able to give the information you may need to search for the records.

JESS SAYS IT TIME TO RENEW. MEMBERSHIP DUES ARE DUE BY FEBRUARY 28, 2011. DON’T DELAY DO IT TODAY.

NEW BOOKS
Did you get a copy of the Aid of Translating French Records or Assumption Cahier Records 1786 – 1813. If not you still have time to get them for Christmas. Put them on your BOOK WISH LIST and order them from Jess Bergeron at jessndot at bellsouth.net or (985) 876-2348. See attached order form.
