NEXT MEETING Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999

North Branch Library, Gray, LA 1:00 p.m.

Please Come Help!

Quarterly Collating Tuesday

23 Feb. 1999, 12 noonWe were treated to a wonderful performance of two vignettes at the January
meeting. They gave a glimpse into the lives of two of the original Acadians who came to a new life in
Louisiana. The skits were well done -- in acting, costume and bi-lingual dialogue. I understood one of them
because it was in English, but I was able to follow the one presented in French because the gestures and
emotions spoke a universal language. And we were given a description of the action written in English.
Olivier Terrio's story was told in French, and Élisabeth Thibodeau Brasseur spoke to us in English. She was
portrayed by Earlene Broussard and Terrio was played by two actors: Shirley Savoy played him as an older
man, while Robert Landreneau took the part of Terrio as a younger man. Jim Viator did an excellent job in
the part of the land schemer, Henri Peyroux de la Coudrenière. In addition, Jolene Adam, Curator/Director
of The Acadian Memorial, gave us an explanation of Ensemble Encore, a multimedia archive for those
who wish to know more about Acadian history and genealogy. It is now online at
<http://www.acadienmemorial.org> Try it out, it is full of good stuff. If you would rather visit in person, call
(318) 394-2258 for details. The Acadian Memorial is located in St. Martinville, along with many other
interesting sites.

BOOKS & DISKS

The Society's publications are doing well. You have until April 30, 1999, to receive the pre-publication price
of $35.00 for the soft cover and $42.00 for the hard cover versions of the Lafourche Parish LA 1880
Census. This consists of over 200 pages listing family number, name, age, color, sex, relationship to head of

ever tried to read the microfilm of one of these Censuses, you know how nice it is to have a typewritten
transcription. Please note: the hard cover is ONLY available on Pre-Publication orders. And the soft cover
price will be $40. All prices do not include $3.00 packing and postage.

The sale of the disks of the 10-year name index of Terrebonne Life Lines is going well. It contains over
60,000 references to persons in the years 1982-1991 of our quarterly, as well as the subject index for the
first 16 volumes of the same publication. Cost is a reasonable $8.00 plus $3.00 postage for two 3.5 inch
disks.

Our Corresponding Secretary, Jess Bergeron, has an unbroken set of 34 years of New Orleans Genesis
available for sale. That's the years 1962-1995, so if you are interested in the complete set, please contact
him at130 Everette Dr., Houma, LA 70364, or phone (504) 876-2348, but please don't call collect!

NEW BUSINESS

Please give a hearty welcome to Louis Duet, our duly elected Board Member who was reinstated at the last
meeting of the board. He took a leave of absence because of a work conflict. Welcome back, Louis!

At that same meeting the board considered the request by several of our members for help with computers
and the internet. Member Aubrey LeBlanc had offered to bring his computer to one of our general meetings
to demonstrate the use of the world wide web for genealogy research. Also, we are considering classes for
those who are just beginning or would like to begin using the computer for genealogy. Stay tuned.

The board would like to have a Genealogy Day for our members to get together for sharing and discussion
of questions and problems, but needs feedback from the members. Would you like to have one of our
regular meeting days to be all day long (lunch on your own)? Or would some other day be better? Please
drop us a line, or e-mail me at the address on page one.

Look for the diary/notes of Mrs. Jean Baptiste Blanchard née Virginia Delaune in the next quarterly. If you
have an article to submit, Audrey Westerman would like to see it. Also queries are available free to
members. Did you know that our quarterly is printed on acid-free paper? One of the quality touches
we provide. Do our members appreciate it? You bet! Ruth Stevens writes from Darrow, LA, "Thanks for
doing such a good job!!" Olive Pichoff writes "I don't want to miss my quarterlies -- I find them very
interesting."
